Viva Magenta | 2023 Pantone Color of the Year

Are you excited about the 2023 Color of the Year?  I am NOT, but we’re going to discuss it anyway!

Pantone has released its 2023 Color of the Year and I’m in love! Okay, maybe shock.  But nobody ever said that I have great taste in this stuff anyway.  So Today I’ll be taking a look at ways to incorporate this bold pop of color into YOUR home, without overdoing it! Let’s go!

Are you thinking about redecorating?  Or maybe you saw Pantone’s 2023  Color of the Year and you’re wondering ‘how can I incorporate this exciting pop of color into my own home?’As your Monmouth County Realtor®, I often find myself assisting with staging and preparing homes for sale.  Believe it or not, I’m really pretty good at this.  I like to stick with the basics even when it comes to color, so this, well is going to be challenging for me.  So, when I saw the 2023 Color of the Year I started trying to figure out how to incorporate it into my listings!

At the end of this post, I will also share a list of 10 home décor pieces in the 2023 Color of the Year, that you can incorporate into your home today!  So stick with me (or scroll to the bottom).

So what is the 2023 Color of the Year?!  Drum roll, please….

Color of the Year

Pantone describes the color as “A berry red that blurs the lines between warm and cool, Viva Magenta is the bold color that is turning heads on the runway and turning up in the metaverse.”  The metaverse, maybe that’s why I”m not so crazy about this color.  I still can’t grasp the whole metaverse thing. Click here to HERE what Pantone has to say!

Pantone then continues to describe the color as Pantone’s Color of “Vibrating with vim and vigor. It is a shade rooted in nature descending from the red family and expressive of a new signal of strength. Viva Magenta is brave and fearless, and a pulsating color whose exuberance promotes a joyous and optimistic celebration, writing a new narrative”.

Taking my personal feelings aside with the color viva magenta, I have learned through all my years of being a realtor that there are a few colors that the camera absolutely loves when taking listing photos.  Magenta always seems to jump right off the screen and adds such a happy feeling to photos.

The awesome thing about this Color is that it does pair really well with some stunning other colors.  The Magentaverse, yup you heard me, it’s now a word, is showing this color along with:

  • Pale Dogwood
  • Gray Sand
  • Gray Lilica
  • Pale Khaki
  • Field of Rye

And a few others.

So the good news here is no matter what you currently have in your home, there just may be an easy way to incorporate viva magenta without having to make too many major changes.

Now that the color of the year was announced, PLEASE do not run to the store and buy everything you can find in Viva Magenta! And please, don’t use it in every single room of your house. Trust me,  that would be  OVERWHELMING!   Can you imagine a Viva Magenta house??????

So, here are my 5 ideas for incorporating the Pantone 2023 color of the year, into your home, without overdoing it:

Dining room table with viva magenta centerpiece of flowers

At the Dining Room Table: Consider buying, or making, some viva magenta placemats and napkins.  These items paired with some white dishes and maybe some lighter accents are sure to make your table POP.  With this bright, sunny color on your table, it might just feel like spring season all year long.

In the Family Room: So, what is currently in your living room?   This is usually a fabulous space to incorporate a pop of color.  You could consider viva magenta-colored throw pillows, trying to find a coffee table book with a touch of magenta on its cover.  How about candles tinted magenta?  Could there be a throw blanket with hints of magenta?  Remember you always want to use an odd number of items when decorating, for example, 3 candles rather than 2, as it is more aesthetically pleasing.

Entire viva magenta themed make up area

In the Bedroom: So take a look around.  What color is your bedding and furniture?  Could you add a bold accent color like viva magenta in this room?  This room can get a little tricky depending on what you currently have.   In my case, if I liked magenta, I could totally add this color. My bedding is all gray and white so a pop of color here would work.  You could consider an accent pillow or a bouquet of fresh-colored flowers.  But you do NOT have to run out and buy all new bedding, if you have color already, say red and viva magenta just don’t cut it, focus on adding some color to a different room.

In the Bathroom: Bathrooms are in my opinion one of the easiest places to incorporate a little pop of color.  Most of the time bathrooms are pretty neutral to begin with, so adding in a little viva magenta here may work. Here you can consider viva magenta-accented hand towels, or a viva magenta-colored soap to put on the counter.  Maybe you can find a simple piece of artwork with a touch of this color or maybe even a shower curtain.

Outside: There are so many opportunities to incorporate viva magenta outside the home.  In fact, it may almost be easier to do! Maybe you can paint some old flower pots you have in the color of the year, or simply plant some fresh flowers or greenery in magenta.  How about some outdoor serving pieces?  I’m sure if you look around your local Marshalls, TJMAXX, Target, or Hobby Lobby they will all be showing decor in the newest color!

Now I want to hear your ideas!  What are you going to do to incorporate the 2023 color of the year into your home? Do you love Viva Magenta or are you like me and not really feeling it?
