Asbury Park is located beachfront promenade. There is something for everyone at the Boardwalk. It’s a great place to dine, shop, go to the theatre, walk the boards or enjoy the beach and surf. The city has a wonderful downtown area mixed with Zagat-rated restaurants and clubs with a mix of art galleries, antique and retail shops.
Asbury Park has drawn a younger, city-dwelling group over the past few years. Yes, Asbury has always had some fabulous venues, with the influx of people from the city, new hip coffee shops, boutique hotels, and NYC-quality restaurants, and fabulous shopping continues to grow here.
Asbury is only about 60 miles from Manhattan, making it easily accessible for a simple day trip. I will tell you, “shore” traffic on the weekends in NJ can be brutal so plan accordingly if you are going to drive down for the day! Asbury Park has a train station and New Jersey Transit offers service directly here. That may be a better option for those hoping to spend the majority of their time on the beaches vs fighting with traffic.

No matter where you live in Monmouth County, be sure to check out the Monmouth County Park System. From endless trails to playgrounds to historic sites, From Spray Grounds to Beaches, the Monmouth County Park System has facilities to suit the needs of all residents of Monmouth County. Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall there are always activities available. The Parks System offers areas available for recreation, exercise, nature, and relaxation to visitors of all ages looking for enjoyment outdoors.
Silver Ball Museum
The Silverball Museum Arcade is another “not to miss” in Asbury Park NJ. The Museum is a tribute to pinball and video gaming past. They have over 600 games* in rotation. Not all games are at all locations, so if you are looking for something specific. You may want to call in advance!

The Beach in Asbury Park
Beach Hours
- Monday to Friday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Weekends and Holidays: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
During these hours beach passes are required to enter the beach, there will be lifeguards on duty, and buoys and ropes marking off the areas for swimming. Keep an eye out for the safe conditions flag: if the water is rough, follow lifeguard instructions to leave the water. Please do not swim when lifeguards are not on duty.
Asbury Park Boardwalk
- Pedestrians are asked to stay to the right when walking. Please follow the signage and markings on the Boardwalk. Please keep moving, no stopping or standing is permitted on the Boardwalk.
- Social distancing will be required on the Boardwalk.
- No chairs, towels/blankets, etc are permitted on the Boardwalk.
- Wear face coverings or masks (except in the cases where doing so would inhibit that individual’s health or where the individual is under two years of age) when: Walking on the Boardwalk; Entering or exiting the beach on beach entry ramps; and Using restroom facilities. Face coverings/masks do not need to be worn when swimming or sunbathing
- City ordinance prohibits dogs on the Boardwalk from May 16 to September 14. **Please note for 2020, dogs are prohibited on the Boardwalk through September 30, 2020.**
- City ordinance prohibits bicycles on the Boardwalk between 10 am and midnight.
- City ordinance prohibits skates, rollerblades, skateboards, and scooters (except handicapped vehicles) on the Boardwalk at all times.
Asbury Has A DOG Beach
- Dogs that are licensed, supervised, and leashed are welcome on the Boardwalk at all times from October 1 to May 15. …
- Dogs that are licensed and supervised are allowed on the Eighth Avenue Dog Beach at all times from October 1 to May 15.
