You MUST visit “Tent City” while you’re here. EVERY single summer, 114 tents are erected around the Great Auditorium. This tradition started in 1869. The tents are still in such demand that there is a waiting list of over ten years for summer rentals. Don’t worry. These aren’t your average, camping tents.
The tent community is unique, to say the least. But for many, it’s a tradition and a vacation experience unlike any other. The canvas tents are used as living rooms; the cottages are used for bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchens. Outside, the little tiny porches are big enough for 2 lawn chairs and maybe even a small table. There was a great article written about the tents and you can read all about it here!
