New Jersey is home to a variety of vintage arcades and I’m a fan of each and every one I’ve been to. I’m pretty sure that’s all of them, and it’s almost impossible to choose a favorite. Morristown Game Vault has a TRON room that’s a-freakin’-mazing and YESTERCADES in Red Bank has some cool console games, but Billy’s Midway has been my go-to lately. Here’s why…

The selection of games is phenomenal! There are 81 vintage and classic arcade games and 23 pinball machines, as of last count.
The current selection includes Asteroids, Burger Time, Donkey Kong, Galaga, Mortal Kombat II, and Pac-Man. My personal favorites are Arkanoid, Super Mario, and Final Lap. Most (if not all) games offer a two player mode, so you can compete with friends.

Maybe you’ll even make it to their leader board. Pinball picks include F-14 Tomcat, Taxi, The Amazing Spiderman, and my beloved Whirlwind – it’s a blast (of cool air)!!!
You can also play good ol’ air hockey, included in the hourly rate. Admission is timed – no coins or tokens are needed.
Get a full day pass for $25 and take a mid-day break at the new restaurant downstairs – Celtic Corner. I’ve been, and I really enjoyed the fries! I’ll definitely be back for more.

Visit Billy’s Midway at 312 Lafayette Avenue, Hawthorne. It’s open Sunday-Thursday from noon until 10 p.m. and from noon until midnight on Friday and Saturday. Kids and adults alike will love this spot. What’s your favorite arcade in New Jersey, retro or otherwise?
