Best way to clean tile grout

Have you ever tried to clean tile grout?  Well i’m in the process of doing it, and trust me it’s a freaking nightmare.  Like literally i’d rather do anything else, and that even includes cleaning toilets.  I have been trying a few different ways of getting my bathroom tile sparkly and new,   So, today i’m going to put 4 products to the test and see what works out the best.  Stick around.

Well here are the products I am going to try out.

Oxyclean.  I’m sure we’ve all seen commercials on this one.  They swear by this product so that’s going to be on the first section of tiles.

Baking Soda and Peroxide.  We have all been told that baking soda cleans everything, so that’s going on the second section of tiles.

Toilet bowl cleaner is the 3rd option.  I know it’s sounds totally crazy.  But think about how gross our toilets get.  If it can clean that?  Well it’s totally worth a shot!

And finally the Dollar Store Cleaner

What do you think is going to be the best one?  Stick around and let’s find out!

Hi Everyone, welcome back.  It’s Cori and I‘m a proud Marlboro Township resident and your local REALTOR® with the Monmouth County Dream Homes Powered by RE/MAX CENTRAL.  It’s time for another video and this week and this one is going to be fun, and dirty!  VERY DIRTY. I mean buying and selling a house is extremely important, but keeping them clean…. Well that should really be a whole other series on it’s own!  Oh and I did do a video about how to keep your stainless steel appliances looking gorgeous, so check that out at the end of this video!

I may not be a huge fan of tile, but it’s here in my house and there is nothing I can do about it for the time being.  So let’s get to it, and let’s dirty……..

Let’s take a peek at my nasty tile floors and dirty grout! AND DON’T YOU JUDGE!

Did you know the reason your grout gets so dirty and well gross, is because it’s super porous.  So when you do your everyday cleaning, you are actually pushing the dirt further into the grout…. HOW GROSS IS THAT?

So, I have been pretty much staying in this house for oh about 9 months now due to covid.  I have been cleaning this house from top top to bottom.  We are in the middle of doing a few upgrades in our master bathroom.  But we are not doing new flooring, (at least yet) so I am taking on the task of cleaning the grout myself.  But what should I use?  Well today video is going to be a bit different, as I am going to actually try some products and we can decide together what is the best one to use!

So we have been living in our home in Morganville for about 8 years.  I clean the floors often. I’m a bit OCD but I have never taken the time to scrub the grout, and to be honest I never really wanted to take the time, but, let’s just say I have nothing but time on my hands, so let’s see what happens.

So I have some gloves, rags, toothbrush, grout brush and some really warm water.   I have bowls for mixing the solutions and this one doesn’t need a bowl. I’ll mark off each section of tile, so we know what we used and where!

So today, my goal is to make it as nice and clean as we possibly can!

So i’m going to be sectioning off the tile in squares so we can see exactly how each product works.

OXYCLEAN

So the first one is Oxiclean.  I mean who hasn’t seen the commercial.  I’ve been dying to try this product so here we go.  I’m just going to miss a few spoons of this powder in a bowl and I’ll add some water and mix it to a paste like consistency!

BAKING SODA / PEROXIDE

So for this  second one one i’m going to make a paste like substance.  I’m going to be using baking soda and hydrogen peroxide.  I don’t want it to be too liquidy.  (do a close up of the consistency. )

CLOROX TOILET BOWL CLEANER

Up third is the toilet bowl cleaner.  So hands down the toilet bowl cleaner is the easiest to apply.   No mess, and takes just few seconds to apply!

LIME AWAY FROM THE DOLLAR STORE

And last but not least is Lime Away  I mean they say it’s good for killing all germs and removing dirt so why not right?  You can buy this at the dollar tree for, yup you guessed it, a dollar

So i’m going to give these about 20 minutes and then we’ll check the results.

So here I have 4 different rags, so we don’t mix any of the products together.  I want to do this and get the best result I can.  I am also going to give each one a scrub with a brush.  I just think really getting in there is better………….

Okay 20 minutes have gone.  So let’s get ready and see what happens!

WHAT DO YOU THINK IS GOING TO HAPPEN??????

Oxiclean – okay so here we go.  Well, this isn’t what I had expected.  I have been watching this commercial forever.  I thought this would wipe away and my floor would be shining so much I would need glasses! Umm not so much.  It’s a freaking mess.  Do you even see a difference?  Holy Crap, it’s like cement. I can’t even get this product off my tile!

Baking soda and peroxide – okay so here we go.  Let’s dip this rag in warm water and start wiping away.  Whoa, this is totally easier. It’s still a mess, but better than the oxiclean.  I don’t see much happening here, do you????

Toilet bowl cleaner- whoa, very easy to wipe away. Huh, looks like its getting the grout clean. You can see the dirt coming off on the sides. Yup, it takes the dirt off. I think I should have scrubbed it a bit more. But so far, this is doing the trick.

And finally, the product from the dollar tree. Lime away. Wow, you can see the dirt coming right off. Crazy, this product cost me $1.00. It’s disgusting how much dirt is coming off. I’m a super curious myself so i’m putting down a bit more limeaway and going to scrub with a toothbrush. WHOA, dirt is coming right off. I bet if I let this prodcut sit a little longer, this may be the best way to clean grout!

I am shocked at the results myself. I though the oxiclean was going to be the best. It was by far the worst, it’s stuck on m tile. The peroxide and baking soda I thought would work well too. They always say peroxide and baking soda work magic on so many things. The toilet bowl cleaner worked really well and was very easy to remove. The limeaway, was so cheap and I think it got the job done. I think we have our answer!

Hey everyone, it’s me again. It’s a couple of hours later. I keep thinking about all the products I used. I don’t think I gave this clorox a chance. So what I did, yup I’m losing my mind, I put more of the product down in a different section of my bathroom. I’m going to let it sit a full 20 minutes and i’ll check it again. I want to bew sure I made the right choice! OCD.

Did you know the reason your grout gets so dirty and well gross, is because it’s super porous.  So when you do your everyday cleaning, you are actually pushing the dirt further into the grout…. HOW GROSS IS THAT?

Okay, so after 20 minutes I hit the tile with the clorox toilet cleaner on it. YES YES YES, I knew it. This is the product that works the best. The limeaway is great too, but i’m a big clorox fan….. I just feel like it gave it the best overall clean. The grout is totally clean!

Boom, i’m changing my mind. Clorox Toilet Bowl Cleaner. You are my favorite way to clean grout!
