Long Branch has historically been a seaside haven for the arts. Theater lovers in the 19th century, including several U.S. presidents, came by rail to take in a play and the ocean breezes in this resort town once dubbed “Hollywood of the East.”
A beachside city in Monmouth County. Long Branch was a beach resort town in the late 18th century, named for its location along a branch of the South Shrewsbury River. Long Branch still continues to be a popular resort area. Many people from New York City travel or settle into the area to escape the crowded city and enjoy Long Branch’s beaches. The area also attracts some tourists from the Philadelphia area as well.
When you ask what’s new at the Jersey Shore, the answer will most likely involve Long Branch. Long a popular spot for surf, sun, and shore fun, the town, with its cutting-edge residential beachside condos, premier shops, and restaurants at Pier Village. This area has become one of New Jersey’s most luxurious oceanfront and dining destinations. Pier Village, situated on the iconic Jersey Shore town of Long Branch, N.J., is an award-winning mixed-use beachfront Victorian-inspired community, featuring over 30 esteemed restaurants, shops, and services at your doorstep. Although it’s one of the ritziest spots at the beach, with Avenue (an upscale restaurant), Avenue Nuit nightclub, and Le Club beach club, there’s plenty to do even if you don’t have deep pockets. During the summer, there are free weekly outdoor concerts and movies under the stars and year-round historic sites, parks, shops, and restaurants that offer something for every interest. Long Branch is also home to the New Jersey Repertory Company which presents new plays and classics.
One special spot is Seven Presidents Oceanfront Park, named for the U.S. presidents who vacationed here. The park comprises 38 acres and offers an ocean beach, swimming, fishing, boating, volleyball plus a boardwalk.
